Patrick A. Russell

Pfc. Patrick A. Russell, son of Joseph and Henrietta "Reta" Russell of Wilmington Island was killed in action in South Vietnam on July 3, 1969.
A Requiem Mass for Pat was celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Savannah, Georgia and he was buried in Bonaventure Cemetery near Thunderbolt in the FISCHER Family plot.

Catherine Margaret Gildea was born to Neil Gildea and Mary Jane Ivey Gildea on September 26, 1897 in Savannah, Georgia. She was baptized on October 31, 1897 at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah. At the time of her birth the family resided at 514 Brian Street in downtown Savannah on one of the beautiful squares.

Sr. Mary Daria (Elizabeth Jane) Gildea

Elizabeth Jane Gildea was born to Neil Gildea and Mary Jane Ivey on April 5, 1916 in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia. She was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Savannah on May 14, 1916.

An article in The Bulletin of the Catholic Laymen's Association of Georgia, published on September 19, 1936, p.3, mentions that her sister Mary "Mamie" Gildea, Miss Inez Coleman and Mrs. William H. Thompson, traveled to Baltimore to visit Elizabeth at the Sisters of Mercy Motherhouse where she was in the novitiate.

Antoine Demetrius Smith

Lance Corporal Antoine Demetrius Smith died 15 November 2004 during the battle to take Fallujah in Iraq. I never met Antoine Smith or "Toine" as his mother referred to him, but I felt I knew him through the stories and photos his mother shared with me on a regular basis. Toine's mother frequented the library where I worked and we often spoke of her beloved son.

All Souls Catholic Church parishioner Carol Ann Doxie Roberts of Lake Mary, Florida passed away on July 3rd, 2015. Carol was born in Bayonne, New Jersey on October 31, 1936 to the late Melvin A. Doxie and Mary G. “Jean” Swesso Doxie. She moved to New Smyrna Beach in 1956 and married Harold Roberts of New Smyrna Beach in 1961. Shortly afterwards they moved to Sanford and she has lived in the area ever since.

Bobby L. Respress

Bobby L. Respress, 78, of Frostproof passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at his residence.

He was born April 28, 1937 in Frostproof, Florida to the late Eddie and Cleo (Tindell) Respress and he has been a lifelong resident of this area. He was a retired supervisor for Alico Inc. after 36 years. Bobby loved flower and vegetable gardening, being with his grandkids and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Frostproof.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, W.D. “Bill” Respress of Zephyrhills and Harry Respress of Sarasota.

Florence Eleanor Gildea

Miss Florence "Honey" Eleanor Gildea died Christmas Eve 1994 at Oceanside Nursing Center after a long illness. My Aunt Honey was born in Savannah, on April 11, 1913 - the second child in her family with the name Florence. she served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps in Southhamton England during World War II. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4392 and American Legion Post 154.

George Abdulkerim Saraf was born in Aintab, Turkey 2 March 1896 into a family of brothers and sisters who were much older than he. George grew up in the Ottoman Empire during the time of the Armenian Genocide, and his family experienced the atrocities that were inflicted upon the Armenian people by the Turks. Were it not for the courageous efforts of Antoine Saraf, the family would have perished like so many hundreds of thousands of others in Turkey and Syria.
